The MLB is truly a “joint” degree, combining numerous aspects of international business law with issues of international management. Because course participants will be trained systematically in both the legal and economic fields, they will obtain a unique ability to analyze the ever-increasing number of international issues that involve both legal and economic elements.

Overview of the program

In the international economy, there is a steadily-growing demand for attorneys and managers who have a command of both legal and economic issues. The international and practice-oriented master’s program is jointly offered by the WHU and Bucerius in response to the market’s needs.

Bucerius Law School and the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management are recognized as the leading institutions in Germany and among the leading institutions worldwide in their respective fields.

Profile of the program

The MLB is a one-year program offering strong professional instruction, a significant research element, an internship, language-skills training for participants who speak a native language other than English and a “studium generale” (general
course of studies).

The academic year begins with the fall term (mid-August to December). The fall term consists – as do spring and summer terms – of both a legal portion and a business segment. The spring term (January to April) combines a six-week teaching block with an eight-week internship in either a law firm or a corporation. The program actively supports participants in obtaining a suitable internship. The summer term (May to July) consists of six teaching weeks and the six-week master’s thesis phase. Graduation takes place in mid- to late August.

The program draws on the faculty resources of both the Bucerius
Law School and the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management and brings in adjunct professors from the practicing legal community. Instruction is internationally and comparatively oriented, the teaching style is characterized by open dialogue, case orientation and intensive supervision of students by faculty.

Location

The home of the Master of Law and Business program is the Bucerius campus in Hamburg, Germany. Hamburg, a beautiful city of some two million inhabitants, combines a thriving port, strong media, publishing and other industries with a vibrant nightlife and a wealth of cultural activities. The well-equipped Bucerius campus is centrally-located, just minutes away from Hamburg’s main commercial district, shopping areas and the lovely Inner and Outer Alster Lakes. Master of Law and Business program participants may also spend time on the campus of the WHU, beautifully situated in Germany’s Rhine River Valley, part of UNESCO’s world cultural heritage.
