Energy in the Future

Industry and universities are challenged to develop innovative concepts for a safe, economically efficient, sustainable and environmental friendly energy supply for the future. Because of the fast changing facts in the field of renewable energy, it is important to be up-to-date with the newest technologies and innovations. The HECTOR School of Engineering and Management is part of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), which is well-known for its excellence in research and teaching, especially in the field of energy research. Our short courses convey current expert knowledge regarding energy storage and wind power technology.

Battery Technologies - May 7. - 9., 2014

Prof. Dr. Helmut Ehrenberg - Institute for Applied Materials - Energy Storage Systems, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology:
Reliable and affordable energy storage is a prerequisite for using renewable energy for integration into the energy system and the development in a future decentralized energy supply system. Energy storage, therefore, has a pivotal role to play in the effort to combine a sustainable energy supply with the standard of technical services and products that we are accustomed to and need.

In this three day course Prof. Dr. Ehrenberg will give the participants an overview of all state of the art energy storage systems. This will include also those systems that are, at the moment, considered not commercially applicable.

Topics
  • „Ideal“ versus „Real“ conditions
  • Lead-based batteries
  • Alkaline-based batteries
  • Lithium-ion-batteries incl. novel concepts which are not yet commercialized
  • Lithium-sulfur and Lithium-oxygen batteries
  • Post-lithium batteries
  • Redox-flow batteries
