8. Master of Public Management

MPM is an intensive, full time program lasting 10 months plus a compulsory internship period (at least 3 months).

The course structure is comprised of four different residential parts:

Public colloquium
This is an introductory course, which has three objectives:
  • to orient incoming students to the MPM program and to Bocconi University,

  • to give students a sense of the scope and nature of skills and attributes required of public managers and MPM participants,

  • to provide students with practice in the art of diversity management, teambuilding and professional document writing through some interactive workshops.

  • Internship
    Internships are carried out over a period of at least 3 months and involve a full-time commitment. During this period, each student is supervised by one MPM faculty member.

    Internships may be carried out in any country. Potential hosting institutions are:

  • international organizations,

  • national, regional and local government institutions, agencies and companies involved into the delivery of public services,

  • NPOs and NGOs,

  • research centers,

  • consultancies.


  • At the end of the internship MPM students are asked to prepare a written report describing and discussing the results of their projects, in order to complete the MPM program.

  • 3 years of work experience (preferred but not essential)

    Program Emphasis
    The Master of Public Management offered by SDA Bocconi is a graduate degree taught in the English language to graduate students worldwide.

    The MPM prepares individuals for careers as managers, analysts, consultants and policy advisors in government institutions, agencies and other organizations closely associated with the public sector.

    Financial Aid
    The School assists candidates with their funds search by placing at their disposal the documentation required for financial support applications.

    In particular, Bocconi grants opportunities for low-interest loans available to admitted students, thanks to agreements with some partner banks.

    Furthermore the University provides international students with information about possible sources for financing in several countries.

    Bocconi School of Management is making available a number of partial merit-based tuition waivers to 2008/09 MPM candidates with an outstanding profile.
     
    Career perspective
    The MPM program is of particular value to students interested in a career as:

  • public managers, in charge of managing resources and achieving results in various activities related to the Public Sector,

  • management systems specialists, working in support management areas such as personnel, financial, marketing and communication, budgeting, etc.,

  • program officers, involved in the development and management of specific programs and projects,

  • consultants and advisors working free lance or within a consultancy.

  • The above mentioned careers may take place in various institutions, such as:

  • public institutions, agencies or organizations, in the incoming countries or abroad,

  • domestic or international consultancies for the public sector,

  • international institutions or agencies,

  • non profit and non governmental institutions.

  • Career development advice and services will be offered during the course in order to help participants manage their independent job searches more effectively.
