The open class is on the topic, Empirical Methods in Corporate Finance, for Advanced Corporate Finance, a Core Module for the Master in Finance Program.

About the Class:

  • Explores the Modigliani–Miller (MM) framework, demonstrating how a firm's financial structure, including leverage and dividend policy, can be irrelevant under ideal market conditions.
  • Introduces the Arrow–Debreu environment, where firm value is determined by underlying cash flows, implying that the way financial claims are structured does not affect total corporate value.
  • Examines the limitations of the MM benchmark and the need to relax its assumptions to better understand real-world financial decisions, capital structure choices, and corporate governance.
  • Presents modern corporate finance theories that incorporate agency conflicts and information asymmetries, while reviewing key theoretical and empirical contributions based on the framework developed by Tirole (2006).
