CHASM Workshop: Financial Education for young people – what works?

CHASM is pleased to announce the next in its financial education workshops, taking place on 2nd February 2017. This FREE one day event will focus on the state of the art in financial education for young people; reviewing what is working in financial education of young people and how current activity is developed further.

Drawing on UK and international research and practice, the workshop will evaluate different approaches to delivering financial education, innovation and learning generated through practice and a discussion of ‘where next’ for financial education of younger people.

Speakers

Ann Griffiths (the Money Advice Service) – Developing financial education in young people – a view of the issues from the Money Advice Service.

Russell Winnard (Head of Educator Facing Programme and Services - Young Enterprise) – Young Enterprise/pfeg’s work on financial education working with teachers in schools, how evaluation is used in Young Enterprise and the impact of the APPG Inquiry 2016 since its release in May 2016

Alison Pask (Managing Director, Financial Capability & Community Outreach, London Institute of Banking and Finance) – What works? A one off intervention or a sustainable programme of financial education?

Steph Hayter (Young People Programmes Manager – the Money Charity) – The Money Charity’s extensive financial education delivery programme nationwide and how they approach and utilise evaluation.

Gemma Closs-Davies – (‘Going it alone’ Project Coordinator – North Wales) – The financial education challenges faced by vulnerable young adults and the issues of evaluating interventions in this area.

Fiona McTeigue (the WestBrom Building Society) – The Money-Go-Round – raising financial awareness in Schools.

Panu Kalmi (University of Vaasa, Finland) – The effects of peer-to-peer financial education – evidence from primary schools.

Caroline Marchant & Tina Harrison (University of Edinburgh) – Mind the gap – past and present financial socialisation of emerging adults in the UK.

Lee Gregory (CHASM – University of Birmingham) – The integration of asset-building objectives and financial education in young people.

Fatima Syed (CHASM PhD student, University of Birmingham) – Financial education in schools: policy into practice.
