Top Asian Business Schools coming to Germany
Business schools in Asia are trying to reverse a decades-old trend when it comes to international students by luring Canadians to go east for their studies.
Four Asian business schools are holding an information session at the Villa Giersch, in Frankfurt am Main on Thursday 5 December from 18:30 to demonstrate the benefits of Far East education.
One of the schools is Nanyang Business School in Singapore, and its marketing director Nick Soriano said the goal is to continue diversifying its student body.
“It’s comprised of more than 80% international students,” said Soriano. “We’re targeting specifically the kind of talent we want to bring to the school.”
Singapore offers career advancement in a part of the world with a booming economy, he said, adding it’s a soft landing for westerners who may not be used to Asian culture.
“Singapore is the closest to the east-west mix that you can experience,” he said. “For a German to study in Singapore there’s not much adjustment to do because it is a very western cosmopolitan kind of environment.”
The drive isn’t just limited to Singapore, as schools in China, Hong Kong and India are trying to entice Germans and other westerners too.
Betty Li grew up in Richmond, but decided to study business at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, partly to get an edge on the global economic market.
“Definitely I want to be in Asia, where the action is,” said Li, who looked into North American schools at first, but heard good reviews about the staff and curriculum in Asia. “When I was doing my research on MBA programs people started talking about how business schools in Asia are actually very reputable now.
