GRE testees should consider a second try

GRE testees unsatisfied with their results might want to consider a second try in order to improve their results. According to an investigation conducted by GRE provider ETS (Educational Testing Service) the average testee improved his performance at a second try.

Upon investigating the effect of the ScoreSelect option that allows testees to retry the test and only submit the best results to graduate schools and business schools ETS found out that, besides the better results at retries, the number of repeaters has increased since the introduction of ScoreSelect in 2012.

The GRE has become a standard among the admission requirements of graduate- and business schools worldwide – both for economic and business master programmes.

“Many of the changes that we have introduced have been designed to bolster students' confidence so that more people will take that step toward graduate or business school”, says David Payne, ETS Vice President. “That means that individuals can approach test day with a backup plan. If they feel they did their best right away, that's terrific, but about 20 percent of people in 2013 did try again.” Being given a second chance, many applicants of graduate and business schools shall be able to tackle the test in a more relaxed way.
