In models of spatial pricing normally Lösch-, Hotelling/Smithies- and Greenhut/Otha-competition are distinguished. Mostly the behavioral assumption according to Hotel-ling/Smithies is presented as the typical solution which is equivalent to the Cournot/Nash-outcome in the traditional oligopoly theory. After a comparison of the respective market per-formances general price- and profitfunctions for two-dimensional market areas are formu-lated. Thus a continuous variation of the reaction coefficient in the symmetrical duopoly is possible. Lösch-behavior turns out to be profit maximizing. After some reflections concerning the stability of this equilibrium a further alternative is examined, viz. the maximization of net revenue at any point in the space. All in all the usual model of pricing in the spirit of Hotel-ling/ Smithies seems scarcely convincing.
