Amsterdam - Executive MBA Leadership conversations

Why Career Pivots Often Fail in a World Built for Specialists

Many senior professionals think about a career pivot at some point. On paper, the move often looks logical - broader scope, new industry, portfolio career, more meaning. In practice, it is frequently more complicated.

Instead of a traditional masterclass, this evening is designed as an informal, off-the-record exchange. The session opens with a short keynote to frame the structural dynamics behind career pivots - why systems reward specialists, why credibility resets when you switch lanes, and why becoming a “generalist” is more difficult than it sounds.

From there, the conversation shifts to alumni voices. Several EMBA graduates who have navigated significant transitions will share candid reflections: what worked, what didn’t, and what surprised them.

This is not a programme presentation, coaching session, or success-story event. It is an conversation for internationally oriented professionals who want to think more clearly about career transitions and long-term positioning.
